Default Legit VPN?

Anyone interested in creating a Virtual Private Network for legit players? With the appearance of cracks ( even if it doesn't work, they will come..) and unsecured servers, I think the players should take it into their own hands.

In regards to the software used.. Hamachi is nice, but it limits you to 16 players. Would be nice if it could support more. Anyone know of any other similar programs that could be used?

I'm not sure whether the VPN technology is neccessary or even useful. What do you gain from linking everyone into a LAN?

However -- yes, I would be interested in a legitimate-play guild/clan/whatsit.

because it's not 'tainted' by cheaters on gamespy :P

i was keen to make a quasi-battlenet system, but it looks like there's a bit too much reverse engineering, and securom is a pain in the butt, character files are pretty bloated too.

Easier though to use forums, chat (IRC? Xfire?) etc. and password-protected games. I especially like IRC. <3

Maybe if we ask nice enough the Admin/mods could set up a section specifically for setting up games.

is Hamachi difficult to setup?
would be good if someone made a persistant server, so you could just jump on the network when you wanted to.

Why bother? Just make a guild and play in passworded games like legit players did back in the days of Diablo 1

Playing our marathon, we couldn't keep people connected through the in-game service. Went to Hamachi, had zero issues whatsoever (compared to people being dropped constantly for no apparent reason). I'd never used it before, setup took ten minutes or less.

Really? That's a significant advantage. You'd still want a proper non-Hamachi means of coordinating. Forums and an IRC channel on some major public server would do it. So, who wants to set that up? I can't really -- have a website but no major bandwidth capabilities.

...

I am installing this Hamachi program you speak of.
