Yet another opinion on TQ and the demo.
Well, I have been playing the demo every since it was first released, and since it seems that everyone else has posted thier thoughts on the game, I thought that I would as well.
The first thing that I noticed about the game, after creating my first character, is that it is a very lovely game. The second thing I noticed was the tips popping up near the beginning of it were annoying, I know that there are probably some who have never played this type of game, and aren't sure what to do, but a good portion probably have at least played one of the others. An option at character creation to disable the tips, before they even pop up would be nice. I know you can disable them when they first pop up, but not even having to be bothered by them would be a better choice.
The character classes and skill trees seem to be fairly good, nothing too spectacular, but they get the job done. They are a nice change from the same ole same ole like in D2 and such. I'm not sure how much I like the use of active skills though, since they take away some of your energy pool, but I guess that will be easy to get used to, though I think it might have been a little better to just have them pulse and take away some of your energy every min or two.
It is also nice to be able to create a town portal anytime you want to, actually it is a great feature, but one that I think is a bit too powerful. I think that there should of been something you need to do this. A potion, or scroll or something, or maybe even a quest you have to do, before this option is available for use, but that is just a minor complaint.
A bigger complaint that I've found is that drops of gold aren't all that common. I'd of liked to have a been more of that. I'm not like most people, and I don't want to haveto pick up everything on the ground, just to make a little bit of gold. I didn't do it in D2, and I don't think I'd do it in Titan Quest. I really don't see the point in having to pick up every piece of equipment just so I can make 50 gold or so total. When I'm out adventuring, I don't want to have to portal to town just to sell stuff to make money to buy other things I might want, or need. I guess it's a silly complaint, and most people will say, just pick up everything you find. I really don't want to pick up and carry 50 copper knives, inventory should be saved for important stuff, and not just somewhere to stick junk to sell.
Overall I am highly pleased with the game, and think that given time, especially with the editor it could be a game that will match D2 in addictivness, at least for me it will. Though I don't count this game along the same caliber as D2, because they setting is totally different, and as far as I can tell is actually a bit more interesting.
Oh, just thought of something else that I found a little annoying. When fighting the centaur chieftan, if you run a little ways away from him, he goes back to his starting position. It would of been nice to have him chase you instead of doing this, because I thought that it was a pain to stick and move against him using a hunter, even when using the net to hold him in place for a few seconds so he can't touch you easily. Speaking of that skill, i thought it was a very nice idea, its nice to have something to hold creatures in place while you attack them from a distance, though it did take a little time to do against the chieftan. I don't know if it's in the full game, though it would be interesting if there were some creatures (like bosses) that this skill wouldn't effect.
A great game, good job Iron Lore, it is a so far impressive game, and I for one, cannot wait for the release.
