I like the "pick up everything" button in Dungeon Siege 2. (Did they have that in DS: Legends of Aranna as well? I forget.) You just click the button and your character grabs everything visible on screen. Maybe that wouldn't quite work in TQ, but something similar might be nice. In Guild Wars, of course, the loot sparkles and has obvious text announcing its presence when you move the cursor over it. The sparkling loot in some respects makes Guild Wars less realistic, as it is actually just a visual gimmick to make loot easier to find, whereas swords and things don't actually sparkle like that in real life (although they may glint in the sun). But I do feel that it is hard to see objects on the ground in Titan Quest, without "cheating" by using Z or Alt. I don't suggest making them glow or sparkle unrealistically, but maybe have them light up when the mouse cursor moves over them or something. This is also an issue where a scalable user interface would help. If I could increase the size of the windows that display the names of items on the ground (when using Z or Alt) then it might make it easier to pick them up.
