well i know this is to little to late (being your post is almost 5mo old now)
but basically upon unintalling Titan Quest.. it will remove your characters. the same occred in Diablo and other games.
Uninstall will wipe the character files . You had to manually copy the files to a side folder and then drag the toons back into the proper folder when you were done.
