I'm sorry but I refuse to believe that. I also have a gig of memory and the game works smoothly.
Of course, there's the occasional rubber banding but only kicks in once every 30mins and/or while in transition from outside to caves. But the game is indeed playable. No problems whatsoever.. (now on my 3rd char) Take note, I somewhat "pimped" my XP:SP2 OS so it would look like vista and that alone eats up about 25% of my memory. Still the game works fine. so maybe it was something else, though I' am certain that having 512mb is indeed the cause of most of the problems.
Maybe convincing her on upgrading her laptop will be my next quest!
