That's because Focus is not a separate skill per se, but a modifier for Battle Awareness. The Battle Awareness skill never switches off. The skill modifiers like Focus use different procedures than either active or passive skills (like Blade Honing - if you recall, you always have to reactivate that).

What if activating Blade Honing also activates a dummy skill that the player doesn't get to interact with, but has the set of real effects? That way, we can have an auto-on/off set up like Battle Awareness and Focus.
