Granted they require dex and str to wear, so if you plan on going the hardcore + skills route you'll need a ton of strength and some dex, but in the end it's worth it considering what you gain. For mages I normally wouldn't suggest raising strength or dex, but all those considerations go out the window when your primary source of damage and defense is in the form of a hoard of pets.
Also "Very nice!" on the build. ^^b One thing to note is you may need to respec sometime between normal China and endgame because your pets will start to take a beating. Don't consider this to be echoes of things to come or anything as you get a straight boost to your pets stats and a 30% damage boost across the board in epic and again in Legendary. If you farm for hardcore greens that give skills that are strength based, it's possible to get so much + skills gear that you have literally every skill in every tree maxed and have some skill points left over after visiting the mystic. That's your cue to throttle the skill gear back and focus on resists. :P
Given Permanence of Stone, your skills are your resists so Summoner, Druid, and Soothsayer in particular have less of a problem with the whole resist thing than other mages.
